Punk rock life imitates art

The modern Lovers (a 1970s punk rock band) had a song “Pablo Picasso”. The song repeatedly features the line “Pablo Picasso was never called an asshole”.

Fast forward 38 years…a 1932 Pablo Picasso painting “Nude, Green Leaves and Bust” sold at Christie’s auction house for $95million. Add the buyer’s premium and it takes the total to $106.5million. A record for any “piece of art” sold at auction.

Conor Jordan, head of impressionist and modern art for Christie’s said he was “ecstatic with the results”…really…. no shit! You just made $11.5million from the buyer and, I am not sure, but probably about the same from the seller.

I think I would be quite giddy if I just made upwards of $20million for selling a “piece of art” that looks like I could duplicate it with about $20 worth of supplies from the craft store and an hour or so to work on it.

The buyer was anonymous but I could describe him to you....and you know he wears a beret.

Pablo Picasso may have never been called an asshole but I’ll bet you $106.5million that the anonymous buyer of this “piece of art” has been by me.
